June Wedding...40 Years Ago

"Oh, they say when you marry in June, you're a bride all your life. And the bridegroom who marries in June gets a sweetheart for a wife." goes the song from the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (Johnny Mercer/ Gene DePaul). That seems to be holding true in my parents' case.

A week ago, all of my siblings except one (we missed you, Paul. lots!) converged upon my parents' home to join them in celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. It is so refreshing to see my parents still holding hands when they get the chance, kissing each other in greeting, and showing small gestures of kindness for each other. (I've seen my dad rubbing my mom's feet as he reads to her from the scriptures, and I know my mom returns the favor with her many ways of showing she cares.) At a family morningside last Sunday, it warmed my heart to hear my dad talk about my mom. I can't remember his exact words, but the jist of what he said was that one of the greatest things that had had a positive impact on his life was that my mom said "yes" when he asked her to marry him. I'm so grateful for my parents' examples of love and dedication to each other, to their children and to the Lord.
